Stretching from the ocean at Busselton to the forests and hills of the Ferguson Valley. An emerging wine region building a reputation for high-quality wines. It's also defended by Gnomes! Around 2 hours drive from Perth.
The Geographe wine region stretches from the ocean at Geographe Bay and the town of Busselton - famous for its 2 km jetty - east to the glorious rolling hills of Ferguson Valley, and the rural towns of Harvey and Donnybrook.
The region is characterised by diverse micro climates from elevated rolling hills, cool sheltered valleys and mild ocean breezes.
There are approximately 790 hectares of vineyards.
"Gnomesville" lies at the southern end of Ferguson Valley. It's a village of Gnomes, thousands of them, left by visitors from accross the world. Wellington Dam, Mount Lennard and glorious bushland are a magnet to bushwalkers, cyclists and mountain bikers.
Climate & Soil
The region has a warm Mediterranean climate overall but with varying microclimates due to its landscape stretching from coast to hills. Altitude ranges from 0-406 M. Average growing season rainfall is 836 mm and the mean temperature is 22.4 C. Soils vary from sandy coastal soils to richer loams.
Top Grape Varieties
Main varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz.
Semillon and Suavignon Blanc are the most widely planted grapes across the region and are commonly blended. Shiraz is produced in a diversity of styles from elegant to robust, the latter with good aging potential. Cabernet Sauvignon from this region is typically softer and more elegant than the surrounding regions.
