The Swan District is Australia's oldest wine region, first planted in 1834, only 5 years after first European settlers arrived and just 2 years after the foundation of Western Australia, which was formerly known as the Swan River Colony.
The region extends from just north of Perth, approximately 30 minutes drive from the city, and runs approximately 60 kilometers north along the coastal plain and eastwards across into the foothills of the Darling Range.
There are approximately 709 hectares of vineyards.
The best known area within Swan District is the subregion of Swan Valley, having the highest concentration of wineries and vineyards and, in addition, a broad range of cultural and entertainment experiences.
Top Grape Varieties Overview
Most renowned for warm-climate Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Chenin Blanc and Verdelho. Also known for its fortifieds.
